Routes to Qualification

 

CACDP/Signature

The Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People (CACDP) was the awarding body for the Level 3 Certificate for Notetakers.  In April 2008, CACDP extended its current registration system to include CACDP qualified Electronic and Manual Notetakers.

 To become qualified as a Notetaker through CACDP, you will need to undertake the following unitised qualifications:

Accessible English for Deaf and Deablind People

L304

Notetaking Skills and Strategies for Working with Deaf People

T302

Professional Issues in Facilitating Communication with Deaf and Deafblind People

P301

Professional Practice for Language Service Professionals

P302

Level 2 Certificate in Communication with Deaf People (replaces the old Level 1 Deaf Awareness Certificate)

LNT3 Notetaking qualification

Once you have passed the Level 3 exams, you can apply to CACDP to become a 'Member of the Register of Notetakers (Manual) or (Electronic).

Holders of the pre- 2007 Level 2 Certificate in Electronic Notetaking for Deaf People or The Level 2 Certificate in Manual Notetaking for Deaf People can apply to become 'Registered Manual/Electronic Notetakers'

However, Notetakers will be required to update their qualifications to the Signature  level 3 award by March 2011 in order to remain on the Register (NRCPD).
